Gleyber Torres, who recently signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Tigers, claims that his previous team did not try to retain him.
In his first two seasons as a member of the New York Yankees, Torres was selected to the All-Star squad from 2018 to 2024. In 2024, he batted .257 with a .709 OPS across 154 games with the Bronx Bombers. The infielder claims the Yankees showed little interest in re-signing him because his season was less successful than his two before seasons.
Bryan Hoch, a Yankees reporter, gave X Saturday a comment that Torres is said to have said about the events of his free agency.
“I received numerous phone calls from other teams following the World Series, so I just concentrated.”to obtain a chance somewhere else. I believe that I must play where someone wants to give me their all, and all I want is to be available to offer the team my best effort. There, I have wonderful friends and excellent communication with everyone in the organisation. According to Hoch, Torres stated, “I’m proud to have played for the Yankees for seven years, but I’m with Detroit now and just really happy they gave me the opportunity to play next year.”
“I don’t believe I’m on their list of priorities. I’m doing fine.
Throughout his career, Torres played shortstop for the Yankees but usually played second base. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is expected to be traded by the Yankees.Torres wasn’t part of their plans for 2025 or later because they moved him to second base and played Oswaldo Cabrera (or someone else) at third base.
Regarding his future with the Tigers, Torres seemed upbeat.

In 2024, the Tigers shocked everyone by going 86-76, good enough to win a series and qualify for the playoffs. Torres was brought on because they want to get better in 2025.
