Gatlinburg, TN – A devastating discovery was made in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Tuesday morning, as the bodies of two couples were found deceased in a remote area of the park.
According to park officials, the couples, identified as Michael and Emily Wilson, 32, and Rachel and James Davis, 29, all from Nashville, Tennessee, were reported missing on Sunday evening. A search party was dispatched, and their bodies were located near the Laurel Falls Trail.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event,” said Park Ranger, Mark Wheeler. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of the victims.”
INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY
The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and the National Park Service are conducting a joint investigation into the cause of death. Preliminary findings suggest that the couples may have succumbed to hypothermia and exposure to the elements.
“It appears they were unprepared for the extreme weather conditions,” said Sheriff Ron Seals. “We urge all visitors to exercise caution and follow park guidelines to ensure their safety.”
