According to park officials, a wildland fire that was reported inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Monday has gotten even bigger, forcing the closure of portions of the park’s roads, trails, and campgrounds.
According to officials, the fire has spread to roughly 23 acres as of Thursday and is mostly burning in steep terrain’s underbrush. Two suppression modules are helping with the initial fire attack on Thursday, and a third module is scheduled to arrive on Friday.
Initially believed to be roughly 10 acres as of Tuesday, Aug. 27 at noon, the fire was known as the Flint Gap Fire. A news release states that no structures are currently in danger.
The Tennessee National Guard dropped 38 buckets, or roughly 25,000 gallons, on Wednesday as part of their ongoing assistance.of water on the flames. According to officials, a Type 3 aircraft will help with reconnaissance on Thursday, assisting in determining the safe access points for ground crews to the fire.

Authorities were notified of the incident inside the park, south of Abrams Creek, close to Hannah Mountain in Tennessee. Officials said they are still investigating the cause of the incident, which was first reported on the evening of August 26.
North Carolina and Tennessee are part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There have been reports of the fire in Tennessee, close to the border with North Carolina and around 50 miles southeast of Knoxville.
