Throughout the week before its game against Alabama, Vanderbilt football shown that it was not scared by the Crimson Tide. Diego Pavia, the quarterback for the Commodores, said that continued right up until the 40-35 upset in Nashville.
Pavia claimed during a Monday visit on the Dan Patrick Show that UA’s captains were trash-talking during the coin toss, suggesting that the Tide appeared to take VU lightly.

Pavia remarked, “They were talking crazy.” “They believed that we would be treated like an FCS team when they entered here? And we thought, “What? You must be unaware. All fine, we’ll see. I repeatedly assured them, “We’re going to see, we’reWe shall see, we shall see. They were laughing and conversing. They were talking crazy, but I can’t say anything on the air because I can’t swear.
Captains Jalen Milroe, Tyler Booker, Malachi Moore, and Deontae Lawson are part of Alabama’s coin toss team. Later in the game, as Vanderbilt was running out of time, Moore made a commotion by kicking the ball and throwing his mouthpiece after referees saw it for the Commodore kneeldowns.
After winning the coin toss, the Crimson Tide decided to postpone.
“We didn’t even shake their hands after they said, ‘We’re taking the ball, they’re kicking off,'” Pavia recalled. “We simply moved to the sidelines.”
Vanderbilt jumped out to an early two-goal lead and never looked back. Pavia was the main attraction forthe Commodores, directing the VU option attack while throwing for 252 yards and two touchdowns and gaining an additional 56 yards on the ground.
Alabama will play again on Saturday in an attempt to bounce back from the Vanderbilt defeat at the hands of South Carolina. The game will be broadcast on ABC and is set to start in Tuscaloosa at 11 a.m. CT.
